Cape Cod
Eastham
Miles of golden sand, the roar of the ocean, the sheltering dunes towering above, the phenomenal Technicolor sunsets over the Bay - what all the picture books show you about Cape Cod's beautiful coastline starts in Eastham and runs all the way up to Provincetown. Here life is quieter, less crowded, and most like the old Cape Cod. The first thing that catches your eye is the Eastham Windmill, oldest on Cape Cod, set in a park in the town center. Samoset Road to the left will take you to some of the best Bayside sunset-watching spots.
Make a stop at the Penniman House, built in 1868 by the famous Captain Edward Penniman, for a delightful look at how the upper class lived 100 years ago. Check out the view beyond, just over the knoll. In Eastham, you will start to feel the presence of the Indians who inhabited the Cape before the Pilgrims arrived, not only because of the names all around you - Nauset, Samoset, Massassoit - but also because of the reverence for the land that is here. This is National Seashore country, and every mile is just so much more eye candy. We recommend spending summer days at Coast Guard Beach, ranked as one of the country’s top 10 beaches by various sources, or Nauset Light, right next door. The Visitor Center on Route 6 will give you an overview of the incredible experience that awaits you out here on the Cape's forearm.
