Cape Cod
Dennis
Dennis runs in a thin strip from Nantucket Sound on its south side to Cape Cod Bay on its north, so visitors can pick exactly what kind of ocean beach and scenery fits their image of the perfect seaside spot. The gently rolling surf on the south beaches with endless sunlit vistas contrasts with the curving sloped beaches and amazing sunsets on the northern Bay side.
In the old days, Dennis was a big sea-faring town. It numbered 379 sea captains among its citizens, and their elegant colonial homes still grace the Route 6A area today, many as very fancy restaurants, cozy B&Bs, or as fascinating museums filled with lore of the Cape's golden age of sail.
The Bass River flows along as the boundary between Dennis and Yarmouth. Trip up the river on the Starfish or a quiet, tranquil canoe ride up the Swan River for a terrific insider's tour! You'll see lots of fascinating wildlife - including beautiful swans, and perhaps even a heron or a snowy egret.
Dennis is also the home of the Cape Playhouse, which has glittered with an all-star live theatre line-up since 1927, and the Cape Museum of Fine Arts, a top-notch collection of works by Cape area artists.
