Bourne

Bourne is the official Bridge town - two spectacular steel spans overlooking the Cape Cod Canal. Both bridges, the Bourne and the Sagamore, represent the entrance point each year for millions of visitors to leave the mainland and step onto Cape Cod. Bourne gives a royal welcome, not only with the superb view of its antique railroad bridge, but also with its floral masterpiece rotary, which welcomes you the instant you get to the top of the Bridge. You can take scenic tours of the Canal by bike, on foot, or by Hy-Line Canal Cruise - superb!

Aptucxet Trading Post is a fascinating replica of the early colonial trading station set up between the settlers and the Indians. Massachusetts Maritime Academy is here, in Buzzards Bay. Bourne has many beautiful beaches along its countless coastal inlets. The town attracts visitors from all over the Cape and mainland for its wonderful Scallop Festival in September.

One of Bourne's biggest fans in the past was President Grover Cleveland, who had his summer White House here at Gray Gables. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire in 1976. But many lovely waterfront homes and snug little cottages dot Bourne's shores today.
